Lusting for Covers (22)

Lusting for Covers is a weekly meme, held on Sunday, that allows bloggers to share their current cover obsession with fellow book lovers.

Here's what you do:

1- Take the graphic (left) to use on your post. Remember to give credit to the original host (TBQ).

2- Choose your own book cover that you've fallen in "lust" with in the past week. It can be new, old, a reprint, or even a book that is not yet out-- it's all up to you! If you find a cover that catches your eye, then showcase it on your blog, and let others see the pretty covers out there.

3- Copy the direct link to your own L4C post into the comment section on my post (when in doubt, use this link and then scroll down to find the post), and allow others to come and see what you picked!
(OPTIONAL):

4- Besides posting the picture of the book cover you chose, it's nice to provide the book summary, title, author, or a website link for the book. It's not required, but it can help you readers' to add more books to their own list! A brief "Why I choose this cover" is also appreciated, but not required.

NOTE: PLEASE link back to my blog (http://tbqspersonalbookpalace.blogspot.com) somewhere in your post, letting viewers know that it is my meme, not something you are trying to call your own. Failing to do so, with the intent of actually calling this your own work, will result in trouble! I hate threatening, but really, is it so hard to post a link that says "This meme is hosted by TBQ."? Link love is great, and actually quite easy-- please use it!

Here's my candidate for the week:

The Duke's Captive

Author: Adele Ashworth
Publisher/Publication Date: Avon (June 29, 2010) *Not sure about this date--- I think it's October instead..*
Summary (Amazon):
Vengeance would be his . . .
Ian Wentworth arrives in London with one goal: revenge. Now a duke of enormous wealth, he should settle down to the business of marrying and producing heirs. But nightmares of an ordeal from his past haunt him at every turn. All those he believes responsible have paid with their lives. All but one: Viola Bennington-Jones, the lovely Lady Cheshire. And he will not rest until he sees the tempting beauty suffer.
Viola keeps her secrets—and there are many—safe from society's prying eyes. When she first spies Ian at a glittering ball, the rush of recognition immediately turns to panic. Does he remember the tender touches that once passed between them? Does he feel the electric passion that binds them still? Or does he blame her for the awful horrors her kin bestowed upon him? The enigmatic duke holds her captive: in desperate thrall to his powerful sensuality, her future—and her heart—in his hands.

Why?
I greatly enjoyed Ashworth's previous novel, My Darling Caroline (which I reviewed on here last week or so), and I look forward to this novel. The cover is beautiful, stunningly sexy, but in a tasteful way, not at all vulgar. I always love a good historical romance "bodice ripper", though the modern "ripper" covers are much better than some of those from the '80s... :D

Here's my candidate for the week:
The Eternal Ones

Title: The Eternal Ones
Author: Kristen Miller
Publisher/Publication Date: Razorbill (August 10, 2010)
Summary (Amazon):
Haven Moore can’t control her visions of a past with a boy called Ethan, and a life in New York that ended in fiery tragedy. In our present, she designs beautiful dresses for her classmates with her best friend Beau. Dressmaking keeps her sane, since she lives with her widowed and heartbroken mother in her tyrannical grandmother’s house in Snope City, a tiny town in Tennessee. Then an impossible group of coincidences conspire to force her to flee to New York, to discover who she is, and who she was.

Why?
I found this while going through the various newsletters I get in my email from publishers and authors regarding upcoming books--- I saw the summary for this one, along with the title, and fell in love instantly! Then I saw the cover-- and fell in love again, due to it's simplicity. It's not complicated, it's not busy, but it gets the point across, and I love the image of the snake creature eating it's own tail-- where does it begin and end, hence the title, "The Eternal Ones".   No ending... Interesting! I can't wait to read this one in August!

[NOR Review]: "My Darling Caroline"

My Darling CarolineTitle: My Darling Caroline
Author: Adele Ashworth
Publisher/Publication Date: Avon; Reissue edition (January 26, 2010)
*Reprint*
Genre: Historical Romance
Summary (Amazon):
No man's darling . . .
One by one, Lady Caroline Grayson watched her four sisters celebrate their betrothals, truly sure that marriage was not in her future—and perfectly pleased with that fact. Or so she thought.

Brent Ravenscroft, Earl of Weymerth, nearly gave his life for the Crown. He returned to England a hero with no intention of taking a bride, certain his brusque demeanor would intimidate any young ladies drawn to his good looks—or so he thought.

Bound by a business transaction, Caroline and Brent begin life as husband and wife. Utterly determined not to fall for each other, they stubbornly ignore the sparks flying between them and keep secrets at every turn. They would resist the lure of love—and the pleasures of the marriage bed—forever . . . or so they thought.

My Review:

What began as an okay storyline in My Darling Caroline quickly turned into one of my favorite historical romances this year! At first, I was a bit hesitant about the characters, especially Brent, but as the story developed—and the characters along with it—I changed my mind completely, and found myself falling for Brent much like Caroline did.

Adele Ashworth has done a spectacular job at creating a beautiful love story. The romance is there, clearly seen, and even more importantly the connection between Brent and Caroline blossoms throughout the novel, beginning as a fresh bud and growing into a lush, full rose by the HEA. A touching romance, with the sweet and tender moments along with the the hot, lusty ones, My Darling Caroline grabbed me and pulled me right into the story, until all the characters seemed real, touchable, not just a name on a page.

Besides the romance, which was very well done, the book also had a story to it, one that, while maybe not the most original, is no where near a cliché either. In fact, just when you think that you've got it figured out, Ashworth would throw something new at you, especially towards the end. Between the perfect romance, the interesting storyline, witty conversations, and lively characters, My Darling Caroline is sure to leave an impression on the reader long after the last page has been turned!

4.5 STARS! I'm glad that I didn't give up on My Darling Caroline after the first few chapters because in the end I was left breathless from the outstandingly written romantic story! Between the interesting dilemmas the H/Hr faced, their passion for one another, and the tender love story that develops, this is a must read! Be sure to pick this one up if you want a refreshing voice in the historical romance genre. I look forward to reading more books by this talented author, including her upcoming novel later this year, The Duke's Captive.

Here's my candidate for the week:

Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage
Author: Jennifer Ashley
Publisher/Publication Date: Berkley (July 6, 2010)
Summary (Amazon):
Lady Isabella Scranton scandalized London by leaving her husband, notorious artist Lord Mac Mackenzie, after only three turbulent years of marriage. But Mac has a few tricks to get the Lady back in his life, and more importantly, back into his bed.
Why?
First off, I just finished the first book in this series, The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie, today and I have only one word for it--- AMAZING (5 stars)! Now, while I am anxious to read the sequel (LISM), I do have to point out that I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this very book (courtesy of Night Owl Reviews, thanks again!) and it is currently sitting on my desk, waiting to be picked up. I plan on starting it today, and I hope it is as spectactular, if not more so, than TMLIM! So while I do not have to wait until July to read it like the rest of you (and for that, I am sorry!), I do still look forward to this book-- and if it's as good as I think it will be, I'll probably buy a final copy in July anyway!

Oh, and as for the cover-- it's beautiful, I especially love the deep blue color of her dress!

Here's my candidate for the week:
Taken by Midnight: A Midnight Breed Novel
Author: Lara Adrian
Publisher/Publication Date:  Dell (September 28, 2010)
Summary (Amazon):
None available at this time.
Why?
While this isn't may favorite of Adrian's covers to date, I still like the color combination-- it's not what you normally see! And since I loved the previous books in her Breeds series, I am, of course, anxious to read this one, even without a summary to go off of first.

Here's my candidate for the week:

Raised by Wolves
Author: Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Publisher/Publication Date:  EgmontUSA (June 8, 2010)
Summary (Amazon):
Adopted by the Alpha of a werewolf pack after a rogue wolf brutally killed her parents right before her eyes, fifteen-year-old Bryn knows only pack life, and the rigid social hierarchy that controls it. That doesn't mean that she's averse to breaking a rule or two.
But when her curiosity gets the better of her and she discovers Chase, a new teen locked in a cage in her guardian's basement, and witnesses him turn into a wolf before her eyes, the horrific memories of her parents' murders return. Bryn becomes obsessed with getting her questions answered, and Chase is the only one who can provide the information she needs.

But in her drive to find the truth, will Bryn push too far beyond the constraints of the pack, forcing her to leave behind her friends, her family, and the identity that she's shaped?

Why?
The cover may not be overwhelmingly eye catching, but it's still very nice-- simple, yet done well. And the summary finishes reeling me in. Chaulk another one down to my wish list! :D
